Technology is quickly taking center stage in our society, leading to a significant rise in STEM careers. Robotics, at the intersection of technology, engineering, and math, offers children an engaging way to gain an early advantage. Our aim is to provide children with abundant opportunities for prosperous future careers. By establishing an organization like this one, we are addressing a notable gap in the West Virginia curriculum.
In the current WV science curriculum, there is limited emphasis on engineering, encompassing only three standards primarily focused on the practical application of science. Throughout the entire K-8 curriculum, we believe there should be greater exposure for students to engineering concepts. Additionally, this program presents children with a group activity that extends beyond sports, providing a platform for recognition and acknowledgment regardless of athletic ability. Children of all abilities can participate, transcending the barriers of traditional sports. Robotics also provides a place for a child’s true intelligence to be appreciated outside of a traditional classroom setting as there are opportunities for each learning style.
This initiative is supported at both the state and national levels, constituting a high school club that fosters a sense of belonging and connection among like-minded individuals. Students involved will learn to define objectives and achieve goals for their robots to qualify for competitions. This process instills a progressive, team-oriented mindset in our younger generations, preparing them for the future.
